2 Sailing Ships at seaThis year all funds raised will go to the Tall Ships Youth Trust to help young people from all backgrounds benefit from a life changing voyage on one of the square rigged sailing ships `Prince William` or `Stavros Niarchos` (Website worth a look for an insight and better description of their work. www.tallships.org

Members of the Tall Ships ( South Downs branch) will be able to answer all aspects of the voyages and will be showing a video of life on board the ships, with spectacular footage from high in the rigging. Brochures will also be available and  details of how local young people between 14-25 yrs of age may be able to receive a bursary towards cost of the voyage. At off season times, adult voyages are available to the under 75`s, so here is something else to put on your Yet To Do list!

Ex Shell marine engineer Paul Mills has recently taken up the Chairmanship of the South Downs branch of Tall Ships. Paul has been a sheep farmer for over 25 years but has maintained his link with the sea by sailing with the trust as a volunteer engineer whenever farm work allows. Since settling in the Chiddingfold area Paul and wife Valerie have been involved in Scouting and this interest led Paul to take a more active role in encouraging younsters to discover the life skills that can be learned in a Tall Ship environment . Vounteers like Paul are vital in running the ships and most have sailed at least once as voyage crew. If you are enthusiastic, can work in a team and have an empathy with young people, why not give it a go.
